Brisbane onehome coffee buy coffee tiago cruz mateus cruz
Working as a civil engineer in Brazil seems a far cry from distributing coffee in Brisbane. Tiago Cruz agrees, taking a chance not only at a whole new country, but at a whole new lifestyle.

OneHome Coffee is the brainchild of Brazilian-born Tiago and his brother Mateus, who both saw an opportunity to break into the home-delivered coffee scene in Australia. An opportunity that not even Covid-19 could stop.

How did this idea launch from dream pipe to reality in not only a brand new country, but at an unusual point in history?

Let’s find out.

Esprit De Figues

Esprit De Figues Fig Liqueur Australia
With the current move towards healthy eating comes its natural successor: healthy drinking.

I don't mean browny-green smoothies and quinoa chia water; I'm talking about fun drinking. The alcoholic kind.

Esprit De Figues is the first fig liqueur to hit the Australian market, and in just a few months it has proven popular among cocktail aficionados nationwide.

I say it's health-conscious because of all the liqueurs out there, Esprit De Figues has one of the lowest levels of sugar. This provides the double benefits of allowing the natural flavours of handpicked Violette de Bordeaux figs to shine, as well as being kind to your insulin levels.

In keeping its sugar levels down, is this drink something you'd still like to sip on during a night out? Let's find out.

Aussie Farmers Direct Freshbox Review
Life in general is a little bit harder with a newborn. Doing the groceries is harder. Cooking is harder. Loosing weight- pfft, don't even talk to me about that.

So I was pretty stoked to be able to try the latest offering from the guys at Aussie Farmers Direct- their home delivered WW Freshbox which comes complete with recipes from Weight Watchers. Given that my brain space is currently filled with nap schedules and feeding times, not having to think about what to cook for dinner is an absolute god-send right now.

It's also great to not feel guilty for running out of food at home and serving up a dinner of chips (guilty as charged).

So how does the WW Freshbox stack up? Let's find out.

Little Birdy Cakes Brisbane cake delivery review
A little birdy told me some news yesterday- there's a new cake delivery service in Brisbane that creates some amazingly good cakes and delivers them to your door for cheep cheep.

Little Bridy Cakes bakes out of a kitchen in West End and delivers all over Brisbane for a flat fee of $10. That means you can get cake to you door for less than a Trente Extra Shot Java Chip Soy Frappaccuino at Starbucks.

Don't drink at Starbucks. Order cake instead.

But is the actual cake worth writing home about? Let's pick up a dainty little fork and find out.

Maleny Black Angus Beef Review
You may have noticed I’ve been away for awhile writing for Bmag, but I'm back and am kicking off with a nod to the origins of Australian Foodie- by checking in with some quality produce from local producers.

Maleny is a scenic town just north of Brisbane, and is far more picturesque than Lady Gaga's tonsills at the Super Bowl.

This town is the source of Maleny Black Angus Beef, selling some pretty impressive Black Angus meat that has raised on Maleny’s prized Kikuyu and clover pastures.

Is this grass fed beef as good as it claims to be? Let’s find out. The steaks are high…

FlavourCrate Ben Macdonald
One reason I love pottering around at food markets on the weekend is to see what new, tasty concoctions have been created by clever local gourmets.

Sadly I don’t always make it to the markets though, particularly in winter when it’s a toss-up between a warm bed or an early morning forage in the elements.

This is where a brand new foodie service comes in.

FlavourCrate is the brainchild of Masterchef contestant Ben Macdonald, who has been working with Australian producers to collect a bunch of gourmet treats which can then be delivered to your door.

What kid of flavours do you get in a crate? Let’s find out.

BV Pizzeria Wine Bar Kawana Island
Kawana Island may not be the first place you think of in Aus when on the hunt for some good Italian food, but perhaps it should be.

It's here you can find BV Pizzeria and Wine Bar, which serves up Italian meals that would do Melbourne's Lygon St proud.

While it's little-known by outsiders, it remains a local favourite.

Let's find out why.

The Long Apron Spicers Clovelly Montville Restaurant Review
Even though it’s technically just over an hour away from Brisbane, Montville in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland feels like a whole other world away, with its rolling green hills, autumn trees and not a traffic jam or brown river in sight.

One of the best ways to make the most of the idyllic nature up here is to find a place that serves up something amazing to eat, and the highly awarded restaurant at Spicers Clovelly Estate is just the place for this.

The Long Apron was recently crowned with two Chef Hats in the 2014 and 2015 Queensland Good Food Guide, two chefs hats in the 2015 Australian Good Food and Travel Guide Chef Hat awards and is ranked in the Top 100 Restaurants in Australia by Gourmet Traveller.

Basically, it specialises in noms.

Maudys Bistro and Bar Maleny Sunshine Coast Review
I have previously written about how finding mid-week restaurants can be hard in Brisbane. This task becomes even harder when you’re somewhere like, say, Maleny for example.

We were recently faced with the challenge of finding somewhere for a group dinner up here on a Wednesday night. Luckily for us, one place took us in with open arms.

Maudy’s Bistro and Bar has changed hands in the last year, and with new proprietors comes new food.

Aromas Noosa Hastings St Review
Located in the middle of Hastings St, with a collection of wicker chairs all facing outwards, it's hard to miss the iconic Aromas at Noosa.

Modeled on a French cafe, Aromas is where to go to people-watch while getting your caffeine fix. It's kind of like watching reality TV but with fewer punch-ups and you can get cheesecake here.

So what's life like on the boulevard? Let's take a look.
