I have previously written about how finding mid-week restaurants can be hard in Brisbane. This task becomes even harder when you’re somewhere like, say, Maleny for example.
We were recently faced with the challenge of finding somewhere for a group dinner up here on a Wednesday night. Luckily for us, one place took us in with open arms.
Maudy’s Bistro and Bar has changed hands in the last year, and with new proprietors comes new food.

The first thing you notice with the menu at Maudy’s is the range of cuisines on offer. Here you can order Italian, Indian or modern Australian (I’m using this term to cover basically everything else).
With a full page of meat-based dishes and another full page of vegetarian options, Maudy’s proved to be a great spot to cater for a group of us with varying appetites and dietary requirements.
Below we had:
I was feeling ravenous and had ordered the curry, which I couldn’t eat fast enough- it was delicious. The sauce was rich and creamy and there was a nice variety of vegetables swimming around in the bowl.
I had a report that the pasta was also a winner. It’s a simple dish but was done well with a great blend of flavours happening throughout the fresh pasta.

Others at the table had:
Once more, the lamb shank won the thumbs up, with the sauce in particular earning rave reviews. The meat fell off the bone as it should and the crispy potato added some nice texture to the dish.
The fish of the day was salmon, with a generous amount of fish being served up. The person who ordered this at our table is a self-confessed fussy eater, and she found it to be not to her taste. Without any prompting at all, the guys at Maudy’s noticed she hadn’t eaten much of the dish so offered another meal which my friend declined, so instead they took this dish off the bill. The whole interlude was extremely friendly and with minimal fuss- you could just tell they wanted to make sure we were having a good time. I couldn’t commend the service highly enough here.

We also shared a round of bread and finished off with dessert.
The dips we had were a beetroot dip and a green tomato dip. The green tomato dip in particular was unique and very moreish.
The panna cotta had some great flavours happening, with the saffron and cardamom adding a South Asian twist to this traditional Italian dessert.
- Toasted Turkish Bread with House Dips
- Saffron and Cardamom Panna Cotta: Panna Cotta, Cardamom Syrup, Ice cream

If you find yourself up in the Sunshine Coast hinterland in need of something delicious for dinner, Maudy’s Bistro and Bar is great option. Some nights, it’s the only option.
With an array of cuisines on the menu, your cravings can be as indecisive as they like here and still be satisfied.
