Spring has well and truly sprung, and what better way to kick off the warmer months with a food festival?
Last weekend, a friend and I headed to Maleny for the Sunshine Coast Real Food Festival, which was packed with tasty treats. Luckily, we went hungry.
One stall in particular drew a lot of attention, and upon closer inspection we realised why- it was offering handcrafted cheeses. All of a sudden I became very concerned about having potentially low calcium levels and decided to jump in the queue.

The Woombye Cheese Company had an array of samples including Marinated Persian Feta and Vintage Cheddar.
We personally loved two of their other samples so much we bought them for an afternoon cheese and margarita session.

The Woombye Blachall Blue and Truffle Triple Cream Brie both sent us to cheese heaven.
The blue was sharp and slightly salty which cut through the creamy texture of the cheese. This blue was dense, and a little bit went a long way. To say it was moreish is an understatement.
The truffle cream brie just lived up to its name. It was beautifully rich, and the generous amount of truffle used meant that you could taste a bit in each mouthful you had. The truffle also gave a nice earthy tone to the buttery cheese.
The first batch of Woombye Cheese was made in June 2013. In such a short time these guys have developed something of a cult cheese following. Probably because they make simply amazing cheese.

For a taste of the Sunshine Coast during the sunshine months, Woombye seems to be a pretty good place to start.
As an aside, my regular 612ABC segment went out live from the side of the road on the way to said Food Festival. Tune in here!
