I’m going to go out on a limb and claim that Colombia is most famous for two things: coffee and Shakira. As this is a food website, I’ll focus on the former but I promise I’m writing this while wearing a midriff.
Colombian coffee has a particularly rich and complex taste thanks to the country’s volcanic soil, and changeable climate. It is this earthy delight that three friends from Colombia, Andreas, Victor and Ana, decided to bring to Brisbane in the form of a brand new café.
Treecycle Coffee Shop in Hamilton’s Portside serves up a range of coffee sourced directly from Colombian farmers, one of which has his portrait beautifully pained on the back wall, reminding you exactly who is behind the beans in your brew.
Will you remember this coffee Wherever, Whenever you are? Let’s find out.

Treecycle sports a menu full of healthy dishes that all sound extremely appetising.
Below I had:
The very pretty smoothie came in a handled mason jar, which matched the rustic feel of the coffee shop perfectly. It was packed full of berries without being overly sweet, which made it a very easy drink to down. The fresh fruit and chia seeds on top were a lovely touch.
I absolutely loved the warm kale salad and will undoubtedly be back for more of the good stuff! It came with a generous serve of haloumi and chicken (which was an extra), and despite my usual disdain for salads, this one filled me up and was incredibly tasty. The walnut dressing was just top notch over everything.

Being in the presence of people so passionate about coffee, I of course had to try one. The house blend of beans is directly sourced from three farms in Colombia; one farm for acidity, one for body and one for sweetness. The result was an absolutely fantastic flat white. The coffee was full bodied and well balanced without even the slightest hint of bitterness.
Brisbane northsiders looking for a specialty coffee shop- you have found it here.
Anyone who takes sugar with their coffee is also in for a treat. Rather than serve up your standard array of white and brown sugars, Treecycle serves up a traditional Latin American panela.
Panela is unrefined and doesn't go anywhere near heat treatment. It is the solid remains from sugar cane juice that has been put through an evaporation process. The result is not as sickly sweet as normal sugar, and panela is said to contain more nutrients. Less guilt with your sugar can only be a good thing.
It’s not all about healthy eating here though, with an array of fresh pastries lining the counter. These include buttery danishes, croissants and torsade twists.
There are upcoming plans to present coffee appreciation classes at Treecycle too, which will help you appreciate your morning beverage even more than you already do (hard to imagine I know).

*Obscure Shakira reference.
^Completely understand Ricky Martin has nothing to do with Colombia. The song is just in my head for whatever sins I've committed today.
