Tastebox Brisbane Dinner Meal Kit Review Portion Size
Being a food-lover, I'm quite happy pottering around in the kitchen, but what I struggle with sometimes is deciding what to make for dinner tonight. When I stop and think of how many hours a week I put into that question, I seriously should put that down as a part-time job.

So when the opportunity came around to try out a new Brisbane meal-kit delivery service, I jumped at it. I was probably most excited about someone else thinking about what I should make for dinner more than anything else.

Tastebox delivers fresh ingredients complete with recipes to your door so all you have to do is read, chop and stir.

What kind of meals can you expect from Tastebox? Let's find out.

Tastebox uses a chef and nutritionist to come up with some pretty easy but healthy recipes so you don't need to feel slightly guilty when you otherwise decide to make macaroni and cheese for dinner. Cheese is not a vegetable.

You then get a box of fresh ingredients to your door on a Monday afternoon from 3pm-6pm, so you can pop everything into the fridge pretty quickly after getting home from work.

Opening my first Tastebox was like opening a Christmas gift but even better, because you knew you weren't getting flashing snowman earrings that play a slightly flat version of Silent Night.

Our first recipe (which was actually listed as the second recipe but I was so excited about it I had to cook it first)  was:

  • Vietnamese Minced Pork with Rice Noodles and Pak Choi

Cooking the noodles was easy. Opening the pre-portioned packet of meat was easy. Chopping some veg and throwing it in the wok- again pretty easy.

We loved this tasty dish which was simple but had some lovely fresh flavours with the chilli and corriander we got with it. The meat was great quality too with hardly any fat coming off it at all.

Our next dinner was:

  • Indian Spiced Chicken with Zucchini and Rice Salad

Again this was an easy dish, with just a 10 minute marinade of the chicken in some of the yoghurt and the spices before frying it up. We had this with a few beers and turned it into a healthy curry night.

I had never stirred through currants, mint and yoghurt in my rice before and this was such a winner. I loved learning new cooking ideas from this whole process.

The portion-size of this dish and in the previous one were both really generous. The is one concern I always have with meal-kit services; will there be enough food? I couldn't finish all of the rice in this meal and even the husband was full with both dinners- that is an achievement!

Our final dinner was:

  • Greek Lamb Salad

Now I don't normally eat a salad for dinner, so it's fair to say this menu item excited me the least. I also wasn't sure if it would fill me up. Once I chopped up all the ingredients though and threw it into a bowl, I realised it wasn't just a salad- it was a big salad. Elaine from Seinfeld would be proud.

Again the quality of the meat in this dish was unreal- not a trace of fat in sight. The feta we were supplied with was so creamy- I would have liked just a touch more of this because it was so good. I also, really, really enjoyed the salad and again couldn't finish my meal (who can't finish a salad!?!) so portion sizes were brilliant.

I'm at an age where all my friends are having babies, and every night I kept thinking that Tastebox would be particularly handy for them- all these recipes are a great size, provide all the nutrition they need and there's no need to brave Coles with a crying baby. Gold!

Tastebox can deliver three or five dinners, and you can ask them to deliver every week or every fortnight, with boxes starting at $60 for the vegetarian box, and $69 for the dinner box.

I really enjoyed cooking up some new recipes, having someone else do my grocery shop, and knowing that I was eating fresh, healthy food. I also really, really loved not thinking about what to cook this week!
