Melbourne's Hosier Lane appears to be Ground Zero for trend-setting.
Where other places look to clean away graffiti as soon as a premises is tagged, the whole laneway owns and encourages the art-form to create a very funky atmosphere.
It is here as well where you can find true, authentic Spanish Tapas at MoVida Next Door. As far as trend-setting goes, this was one of the only places you could find tapas before the small-plate restaurant boom of 2013.
How does it fare against other bite-sized Euro-inspired bars? Let's find out.

MoVida Next Door is right next door to big brother restaurant MoVida Aqui. Where MoVida Aqui has fancy table settings and big plate options, Movida Next Door instead is a cozy bar serving up some amazingly authentic tapas and raciones.
A very fashionable friend of mine suggested we dine here, and once again she was right on trend.
We kicked off our bar experience with a bottle of 2012 Sierra Cantabria Tempranillo Viura Garnacha Rioja which was perfect pairing for the seafood-inspired plates we were about to embark on.

We then started with:
The mushrooms in the croqueteas tasted so fresh they had a dense truffle-like nature to them. I loved these.
My pick of these three though was the scotch egg. The quail egg was cooked to absolute perfection with a nice runny yolk. It went so well with the salted cod that was wrapped around it, before being so deliciously crumbed and fried.
The tortilla had a lovely sweet taste to it from the caramelised onions and you could just tell that some excellent quality eggs made it into this mixture.

From the specials menu we then had:
Both of these offered the most decadent little mouthfuls of goodness. The scallops were still nice and firm on the inside, but seared to an almost caramel-like texture on the outside. Paired with the super crunchy prosciutto, this was a match made in heaven.
The duck was also perfectly cooked, featuring a crispy skin without suffering dried out meat inside. It went swimmingly with the sweet quince pieces.

We then finished up with:
MoVida Next Door was doing deep-fried goodness so well, we decided to stick with this theme for dessert. The churros pieces were light and fluffy inside and were the perfect golden vehicles for the decadent and slightly bitter drinking chocolate.

While graffiti is usually considered an eyesore, in this part of town it provides a funky, alternative atmosphere. This same fearless pushing of the boundaries is just what you get at MoVida Next Door.
Not only did it bring tapas in vogue, but the type of tapas you get at MoVida Next Door is just what you'd expect straight from the Atlantic cost of Andalusia. Only you're lucky enough to be getting it on the Southern coast of Victoria.
