A sea change has taken place at the old Clayfield Aquarium, with a brand new café taking residence in a building once known for its guppies and goldfish.

Let Minnow Café still pays homage to its fishy ancestry, with both its name and its interior artwork, which will have you swimming with the fishes while you chow down on one.

So is this cafe a catch? Let’s find out.

The vibrant colours used in the modern interior of this café creates a warm, welcoming feel, and the friendly staff here cement that vibe.

We popped in for a mid-week breakfast and ordered the:

  • Healthy Open Omelette, with Mushroom, Tomato, Zucchini, Onion, Capsicum, Shallots and a House Relish
  • Chamellia 9 Spice Fresh Chai Latte

The omelette made for a very filling start to the day. It came with a generous amount of veggies which were all softly cooked to still preserve their sweetness.

I found the relish was a bit on the sweet side for me personally, but it still lifted the omelette when smeared in small amounts.

I absolutely loved the chai latte which was a delight on soy milk. It came with a sprinkling of crunchy sweet cinnamon on top which was divine.

Other breakfast options include the tinned minnows, which are sardines served with a soft boiled egg, fresh tomato, salsa verde and sourdough.

The healthy touch has been bestowed on even things that are normally not-so-healthy. Here you can get wholemeal waffles, served with cinnamon ice-cream, seasonal fruit and maple syrup.

The cafe caters to all types of dietary requirements including gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian and vegan.
