I don’t want to imply that my day-job is boring or anything, but while I was in the midst of yet another day at the office a very welcome surprise arrived- a delivery of cupcakes!
These sweet delights resulted in excel spreadsheets being closed and emails left unfinished as the rest of the office and I made our way to the kitchen for an impromptu morning tea.
Cake beats pivot tables any day.
These cupcakes came courtesy of Cupcakes Delivered, a site that delivers cupcakes (in case their name was somewhat misleading…) Australia-wide. That means if you're in Perth and you’ve got someone who needs cheering-up in Adelaide or is celebrating a life mile-stone in Hobart, you can send a fresh batch of baked goods.

So what can you expect when you open a box of cupcakes couriered to you? Some pretty good packaging, that's what.
While I was unsure if these cakes would be in prime fluffy-condition when I opened the box, I had nothing to fear. The ice pack in the thermal packaging ensured the cakes were cool and that the icing hadn’t melted in any way.
The cupcakes were also snug in their plastic holders, meaning these little treats could survive a cornering van nicely.
Unveiling the cupcakes was, truly, one of the most exciting moments in the office for months. I almost wished I had cued up a soundtrack of a soprano hitting the high notes in Rigoletto.

The cupcakes looked perfect, and I loved the beautiful tight piping of the icing on each one.
It’s not enough for cupcakes to look pretty though, they need to be pretty tasty too. In testament to how delicious these little cakes were, they were absolutely demolished in the space of a few minutes.

The cupcakes we received were:
- Pretty in Pink: Mud Chocolate Cupcakes with Strawberry Pink Icing
- Boyish Batch: Vanilla Cupcakes with Blueberry Icing
- Cookies and Cream: Mud Chocolate Cupcakes with Cookies and Cream Icing
- Vanilla Angel: Vanilla Cupcakes with Vanilla Icing
If I have to pick a favourite, the strawberry icing and rich mud cake was a match made in bakers’ heaven. There was no doubting that the strawberry icing tasted exactly like strawberries.
The vanilla cupcakes with blueberry icing were pretty moreish too. Again the icing tasted like blueberries, and went so well with the vanilla base.
The cakes themselves were so moist, they were just a delight to eat. Apparently these cupcakes will stay fresh for five days, but it would be hard to find a batch that would last that long.
