One of the most exciting events of Brisbane Good Food Month kicked-off last weekend, and I say exciting for two reasons- entry is free and the food is fresh, flavourful and fun.
The Night Noodle Markets at Southbank is our chance to taste the culinary delights of renowned interstate restaurants such as Longrain and Mamak both in Sydney and Melbourne.
It's also a chance for our local foodie heroes to shine with offerings from Bird's Nest Yakitori in West End and Peng You in Newstead.

The atmosphere at Southbank really added to the whole noodle experience, with lanterns decorating the skyline. To mix things up a bit, there was also a dancefloor at the Tanqueray Gin Garden, which I was told had been getting good use after people had visited the bar a few times.

No matter how pretty a place is, it really is all about the food and we opted for the chance to taste some Longrain delicacies which- let's face it- doesn't come around that often.
Below, Longrain's Green Curry Pork with Wild Ginger and Thai Basil was a phenomenal curry. Packed with subtle flavours, it was fragrant and mildly hot and was perfect for a cold Winter's night (by Brisbane standards anyway).
Also below, the Hot and Sour Coconut Soup with Prawns and Crispy Noodles piqued my interest and sent my tastebuds a-tingling. This was a rich, rich broth full of herbs and spices which was to die for. Longrain were generous with their prawn serving as well, I had about 10 in this little bowl of goodness.

While crispy noodles aren't usually my thing, I do appreciate that it's the best way to get through the ridiculously long lines of hungry people.
I had asked a few noodle-devotees at different stalls how long they had been waiting for with some saying they had been standing there for 45 minutes! I did check-in again later in the night and was assured that the food was worth the wait. If my raving about deliciousness isn't enough to sway you to visit Southbank this week, this foodie dedication should.
