4 Pines Pale Ale Review

Happy new beer 2014! Summer is well and truly on which makes for some excellent beer tasting conditions, and I thought I'd start with a brew I had quite a bit when I was living in Sydney a few years back.

4 Pines is based in Manly in Sydney's northern beaches where they have their own bar and restaurant set-up. If you can't make it to Sydney, then it's worth bringing a little of it into your home and the 4 Pines Pale Ale is a good way to go about it.

What you really notice about this easy-drinking beer is it's aroma. There are whiffs of grass, pine (funnily enough) and lemon which sets the scene for a really refreshing drink. The citrus flavour continues onto the palate where the beer becomes more tangy and then offers a slightly bitter aftertaste.

The Pale Ale pours a lovely amber colour with reddish tints and has a very short-lived off-white head, which doesn't quite linger as long as I'd like, but doesn't detract from the overall great quality of this beverage.

This particular beer is brewed in the style of an American Pale Ale and is a solid example of this type of beer. The guys at 4 Pines brew to ye olde
German purity laws which stipulates only 4 ingredients : hops, water, yeast and malt, though I do hear they sometimes throw in tasty treats such as ginger and mandarin which let's face it- can only be a good thing!

If you're on the hunt for a light beer on a hot summer's day by the beach, this one is hard to go past.

I have indeed but it was ages ago- that would be the perfect Winter drink with a good pub meal!
