After downing and loving 4 Pines Pale Ale at the start of the year, I was readily inspired to drink my way through another 4 Pines offering and came across their quirky Kolsch.
Kolsch is typically a specialty beer brewed in Cologne (Köln) in Germany, and is the German answer to the British pale ales, which makes for an interesting style for the Manly brewery to take on.

4 Pines Kolsch pours a golden colour and is full of citrus and melon aromas. Taste-wise, this is a quite lively beer with notes of mandarin and a butterscotch-biscuit malt finish. There is also a mild bitterness on the palate. What I really like about this beer is the low carbonation, so you can knock a couple back with ease.
While I haven't had very many kolschs to compare this too, it was a lovely pale ale style of beer which again, fits the Summer months nicely.
As mentioned in my last 4 Pines Post, the brewery adheres to German purity laws when creating a batch of deliciousness, sticking to only 4 ingredients: hops, water, yeast and malt. Ok sometimes there may be something interesting like ginger thrown in, but that can only be a winner in my books!
I love the uniqueness of the kolsch down-under, and really recommend this to compliment your next fun-in-the-sun day.
