Thankfully, this little gem of a place on Brisbane's north side is chilled, both in temperature and ambiance.
Pod Espresso in Stafford provides a little foodie oasis for those who need to cool down their brow and fill up their bellies. A new summer menu keeps things interesting as well for the locals.
So what's good for hot weather eating? Let's find out.
Pod Espresso serves up breakfast and lunch, and has a creative flair to its menu, which is always a delight to discover.
New menu items include a House Made Coconut Crunch Granola with Coconut Yoghurt and Berries, and Sweet Potato Cakes with Avocado Rocket Salad, Beetroot Hummus, Capsicum and Tomato Drizzle.
Below we decided to try out the Tomato, Basil and Onion Bruschetta with Grilled Proscuitto, Smoked Fetta on Pumpkin Sourdough. We also ordered the House Cured Salmon on a Potato, Pea and Fetta Cake with Avocado and Pickled Onion Salad, and a Lemon and Dill Yoghurt Dressing.
The bruschetta was a delight with the smoked fetta adding a really nice depth to this dish. The proscuitto was nice and crispy as well, giving a contrasting texture to the creamy cheese.
We also loved the salmon and potato cakes. There was a generous amount of avocado on the plate which we really appreciated. I'm always disappointed when I read that there will be avocado in a meal and it's been dished out by an eye-dropper. The salmon itself was lovely with a decidedly soft texture.
The Peanut Butter Brownie (pictured up top) was decadent and delicious without being too sickly sweet as can be a problem with the old brownie. The texture was really fudgy too, and it was really hard to not make a Homer Simpson drool noise with each bite taken- "Nghaagghhhaaaa"...
We also decided to give the Gluten-Free Raspberry Lamington a whirl which was another choc-a-holic's delight. I had expected a traditional sponge cake on the inside, but I wasn't complaining when I discovered the whole thing was chocolate and raspberry through and through.
The coffee here at Pod is excellent too, and the perfect way to wash down your sweet, sweet morsels.
Pod Espresso can be found on the corner of Stafford Road and Crawford Avenue, Stafford 4053.
