Noosa Beach House Peter Kurivita Restaurant Review

Recently we took a mini-break up to Noosa on the Sunshine Coast, and while the weather didn't live up to the name of the region, we still had a blast and packed in some beach time, some bushwalking and of course some gourmet noms.

While we ate at a number of bistros and restaurants which each crafted amazing levels of deliciousness, none was more unique than our dining experience at Peter Kurivita's relatively new restaurant, Noosa Beach House.

Situated where the old Catos Restaurant and Bar was right on Hastings St, this new establishment takes fine dining and brings it back down to earth. The meals have a worldly element to them with the menu full of curries and spices.

The husband ordered a Sri Lankan Snapper Curry which was beautifully cooked. The Snapper came with a crispy skin on a plate with tamarind paste and a separate little jug full of curry sauce. Needless to say there wasn't a drop of sauce left either in the jug or on the plate- it was packed full of flavour including punchy spices and subtle lemongrass tastes.

I had a menu special for the night, which I noticed at least one person at every table around us also had. It was easy to pick this out as the meal provided us each with a classy bib to wear. Peter Kurivita has been loving all things Mexican lately, and I had the Mexican Spanner Crab, which was a giant plate piled up with crab that was half cut-up for me, but did require some special implements for me to get to the tasty, tasty crab meat. Thank god this wasn't a first date.

The crab was steamed perfectly and coated in aromatic spices again. It had its own little curry happening in the bottom of the plate and I had some rice as well to soak up the brilliant blend of flavours at the end.

While we absolutely loved our meals and the rest of our dining experience at the Noosa Beach House, we did over hear some people who were disappointed that their steamed Moreton Bay Bug had come out served in an aromatic sauce- they had just wanted a plain steamed bug. So I guess that is the thing with this restaurant- all dishes have some element of spice to them. That's what makes them unique and I totally appreciate that will not be to everyone's taste. Diner beware.

It was very much to our taste though and we savoured every mouthful. No I did not wear the bib. Yes I did regret that decision when I looked at my shirt after dinner.
