Pony Dining Eagle St Pier Brisbane Review Bar Drinks
Being in the River City and all, I'm always excited when I get to enjoy a drink by the Brisbane River.

Yes it's brown and yes it's home to small sharks, and yes it floods and causes chaotic damage, but it's still a bit of nature running through the city.

And it's all we've got, so let's roll with it. What better way to while away a few hours than by having cocktails by the water?

We rocked up to Pony Dining on Eagle St Pier just as the heavens were about to open and add a few more drops of water to said river after a stinking hot day.

Noosa on the Sunshine Coast has long been known for its gorgeous beaches and delectable foodie delights, but now thanks to this little gem of a bar, it's also becoming renowned for its cocktails.

While the bar staff will make you a cosmopolitan if you ask for one, the list of cocktail capers at Miss Moneypenny's on Hastings St is so creative and unique that you'll wonder why the women from Sex and the City didn't stray from their regular choice of drink every now and then.

Mayer Bloody Hill 2013 Pinot Noir Review

If you want to know what the expect from any of Timo Mayer's wines, go to his quirky little website. It's a one-pager with a simple wine-making belief statement, and a note they don't do barcodes. Basically if you want a funky-tasting, salt-of-the-earth wine, try this one.

The 2013 Bloody Hill Pinot Noir is
pretty up there as a stellar example of an earthy, savoury wine. There is no filtration and minimal handling of the grapes, so what you end up with in your glass is a good dose of the Yarra Valley.

Pewsey Vale Museum Reserve 2003 Contours Riesling Review

It may feel like the depths of Winter at the moment, and Riesling may be acquainted with seafood and Summer out on the deck, but we cracked open this 2003 Pewsey Vale Museum Reserve while rugged up with beanies and unnecessarily loud scarves and it went down a treat.

Aged Riesling is so different to its young counterpart, with much more weight and richer tastes coming through. Instead of the expected fresh lemongrass, we tasted candied lemon with rosemary and instead of a crisp finish, there was a lingering of lavender honey on the palate. This wine was also wonderfully toasty, which gave weight to the myriad of flavours that mingled together beautifully.

So I've been a bit on a Heathcote-kick lately as you may be able to tell from this review riding the coattails of the Heathcote Estate Single Vineyard Shiraz review a few weeks ago. But there's a reason for this- Heathcote produces some stellar shiraz bottles.

Situated just north of Melbourne, Heathcote is marked by ancient Cambrian earth, which is a rich, volcanic soil. This is what makes the area renowned for its shiraz grapes.

Bionade Organic Cola Review

Bionade Australia
You may remember a recent post about a relatively new bevvy to hit Australia's shores. Well Bionade seems to have taken off so well down-under, a brand new flavour has been released which I find just a bit exciting because it takes a not-so-healthy drink and has brewed it up with more natural ingredients, making it a whole lot more guilt-free.

Organic Cola is the latest Bionade offering, and I'll be honest, it tastes nothing like its big-brand brothers. But while Coke and Pepsi normally leaves me wanting for a giant glass of water afterwards, Bionade doesn't thanks to not being packed with teaspoon-fulls of sugar.

Heathcote Estate Single Vineyard 2010 Shiraz Review

Heathcote as a region is one area in Australia where you can really pick a distinct terroir, particularly in any shiraz that's produced here.

I've had a few bottles of shiraz from this region, and one thing I always pick is a lovely flintiness that comes through. The Heathcote Estate 2010 Shiraz is no exception.

As we've reached the end of Summer festivities and are starting to dig out the jumpers a bit more, I thought it would be a good time to start checking out some warming detox options.

Just as I was thinking this, I stumbled upon these herbal teas at the Brisbane MarketPlace Markets.

4 Pines Kolsch Review

After downing and loving 4 Pines Pale Ale at the start of the year, I was readily inspired to drink my way through another 4 Pines offering and came across their quirky Kolsch.

Kolsch is typically a specialty beer brewed in Cologne (Köln) in Germany, and is the German answer to the British pale ales, which makes for an interesting style for the Manly brewery to take on.

Bionade Lychee, Elderberry, Herbs & Ginger Orange Review

bionade review australia
While I do enjoy a beer (evidently from this site) there are some days when my liver says, "Enough Tanya! I need a break no matter how tasty that malted barley is!" At this point, I usually reply, "It's ok liver, I'll find something equally as delicious but healthier for you," and while my conversation with my liver continues for a few minutes more, I will save you the verbatim.

One drink that actually ticks the "as-satisfying-as-a-beer-but-is-not-alcoholic" box is Bionade, which is relatively new to the Aussie market.
