Organising a get-together for a big group can be a touch difficult with many places only offering set menus, or refusing to split the bill at the end. One place we came across that easily catered for 20 was this down-the-rabbit-hole eatery.

If you have a special event to celebrate but aren’t quite sure if your blow torching, juliening and microplaning skills will cut it, why not give yourself some slack and leave that all up to the pros?
One place that will ensure you have a pretty memorable night is Bacchus in Brisbane’s South Bank. While some fine dining establishments only offer one type of menu, Bacchus has gone nuts on choice, meaning you can cater for any kind of event you have in mind. Serving up breakfast, lunch and dinner, you can order À La Carte, or opt for a Seven-Course Degustation, a Four-Course Petit Degustation, a Vegetarian Degustation, a Vegan Degustation, a Dessert Degustation, a 3 course Chef’s Selection or a range of High Teas including a gluten-free option. The guys at Bacchus have recently added some new dishes into these various menus, and we sat down to try them out.
Having a good local bakery is like owning a Chris Hemsworth movie on DVD- great to have nearby for when you need a quick pick-me-up.
One of Brisbane’s bakery institutions is Banneton Bakery, which can be found in various parts of town, including the Kelvin Grove Markets, Boggo Road Markets, and at its two shops in Ashgrove and Woolloongabba. Check out what happened when we succumbed to some temptations of the baked-good kind.
Normally when I go to a bar, all I need is some funky ambiance and a good choice of beverages to be happy. If a place has great food on offer as well, that takes it up to a whole other level.
Each of these three things is exactly what you get at Hoo Ha Bar, which is set up as a cosy home-away-from-home, tucked away just behind the hustle and bustle of the Southbank restaurant precinct in South Brisbane. So what's all the Hoo Ha all about at this place? Let's find out.
Last weekend we woke up and thought, 'where better to have a spot of breakfast than at a place that only serves dessert?' So off we went to Cowch Dessert and Cocktail Bar. No we didn't have cocktails for breakfast, but yes we did have dessert.
Life is uncertain- eat dessert first. Located among the Grey St restaurants at Brisbane's Southbank, Cowch is the perfect place for anyone who can't stop at one Tim Tam.
People who like a bit of heat on their meat often face a culinary dilemma. Do I go for Indian or Mexican tonight? Or do I just tip chilli sauce on my tin of baked beans and sausages?
Well despair no longer spice-lovers, because this place has you covered. And you can keep your tinned food in the pantry. IndiMex in Greenslopes is, as the name suggests, an Indian-Mexican fusion restaurant.
Dining out in Brisbane's 'burbs can be a bit difficult sometimes. The last time a bunch of friends and I tried to go out for a Wednesday night dinner on the north-side we had a few challenges to overcome.
Finding a restaurant that was open was a challenge. Ordering off a limited menu was a challenge. Having to speed-eat before the restaurant shut early- also a challenge. Thankfully, there's a new kid on the outer skirts of town that is not only open on weeknights, but serves up an impressive range of some of the most moreish food ever.
While the upcoming Queensland election is covering a range of very important issues, there is one notable public debate that has been absent from major party campaigning. Brisbane wants more gastropubs!
And we want them to be as good as South Brisbane's Fish Lane Bistro. Fish Lane Bistro is part of the Fox Hotel, which draws a mixed crowd. I confess I wasn't sure what to expect at its adjoining gastropub/ bistro, so when I rocked up and got a touch of fine dining, I was more than pleasantly surprised.
I have a confession to make. Before I ate at Mu'ooz I didn't know exactly where Eritrea was located within Africa.
To save anyone else in my situation from opening Google Maps right now, it borders Sudan and Ethiopia and is across the Red Sea from Yemen. It is also home to a cracking good slow-cooked stew. The name Mu’ooz, means “tasty and healthy” in Tigrinya, which is the language of Eritrea. If ever there was a restaurant that lived up to its name, this is probably it.
Brisbane's West End has long attracted anyone on the hunt for awesome food on a budget. It really was high time then that I reviewed one of the best 4101 restaurants that ticks these two boxes: Little Greek Taverna.
Right on the pointy corner of Browning St and Melbourne St, this restaurant involves a lot of sidewalk eating. I've been coming here quite a bit, and I actually can't ever remember eating inside. Which is good because that would hinder my ability to people-watch, and West End is one of the best places in Brisbane for that! |
