With the temperature nudging 40 degrees on a continual basis these days, it can be a challenge to find a cafe with a bit of aircon.

Thankfully, this little gem of a place on Brisbane's north side is chilled, both in temperature and ambiance.

Pod Espresso in Stafford provides a little foodie oasis for those who need to cool down their brow and fill up their bellies. A new summer menu keeps things interesting as well for the locals.

Ramekins Cafe Carseldine Brisbane Review
Carseldine is usually somewhere I drive through briefly en route to the Sunshine Coast. Recently though it has become a destination point in its own right, thanks to one particular cafe serving up some super impressive eats.

Ramekins Cafe is in Carseldine Central, just off Gympie Rd. It aims to provide northsiders with a relaxing place to settle down with good food and coffee.

Has it achieved this goal? Let's find out.

Aussie Farmers Direct Freshbox Review
Life in general is a little bit harder with a newborn. Doing the groceries is harder. Cooking is harder. Loosing weight- pfft, don't even talk to me about that.

So I was pretty stoked to be able to try the latest offering from the guys at Aussie Farmers Direct- their home delivered WW Freshbox which comes complete with recipes from Weight Watchers. Given that my brain space is currently filled with nap schedules and feeding times, not having to think about what to cook for dinner is an absolute god-send right now.

It's also great to not feel guilty for running out of food at home and serving up a dinner of chips (guilty as charged).

So how does the WW Freshbox stack up? Let's find out.

The Golden Pig Cooking School Newstead Brisbane Review
Being a food-lover does mean that I'm not too shabby in the kitchen. I'm not exactly creating croquembouches every fortnight, but I can churn out the basics quite nicely.

Need someone to get that pasta dish done? I'm your girl.

Whether you're the executive chef at home or more in charge of the sponge and scourer, there's always room to learn something new in the kitchen. That's exactly what you can do at The Golden Pig Cooking School in Brisbane's Newstead.

What's the benefit of actually going to a cooking class instead just rifling through "Woman's Weekly Easy Dinners"? Read on to find out.

Little Birdy Cakes Brisbane cake delivery review
A little birdy told me some news yesterday- there's a new cake delivery service in Brisbane that creates some amazingly good cakes and delivers them to your door for cheep cheep.

Little Bridy Cakes bakes out of a kitchen in West End and delivers all over Brisbane for a flat fee of $10. That means you can get cake to you door for less than a Trente Extra Shot Java Chip Soy Frappaccuino at Starbucks.

Don't drink at Starbucks. Order cake instead.

But is the actual cake worth writing home about? Let's pick up a dainty little fork and find out.

Putia review Banyo
Aside from Australian Foodie, I do have a day job (‘don’t give it up,’ I hear you say). This day job happens to be located in the Brisbane suburb of Banyo.

I have to confess, I had never heard of Banyo until I had started at said job, and I also have to admit that there really isn’t that much out here in the way of shops or nice little cafes. Rolling green hills- yes. Piccolo lattes- no.

That all changed though when celebrity chef Dominique Rizzo decided to take this quiet little ‘burb and place it firmly on the Google map, with her restaurant, Putia Pure Food Kitchen.

Putia is a Sicilian word, meaning a small shop selling food, wine and household goods, with Banyo’s Putia single-handedly modernising the café scene in this historic Brisbane area.

How has Banyo taken to little Sicily? Let’s find out.

Atalanta Bar and Greek Portside Hamilton review Brisbane
Everyone knows about Zeus with his thunderbolts, and Venus with her penchant for chocolates on Valentine’s day. There is, however, another character in Greek mythology that the people of Brisbane will soon be familiar with- Atalanta.

She’s a badass huntress that will never let you go hungry.

Atalanta Bar and Greek has just opened at Portside in Hamilton, and has done all the hunting and foraging for you, to serve up some fresh Greek feasting.

Let’s find out if the food is as good as the myth.

A sea change has taken place at the old Clayfield Aquarium, with a brand new café taking residence in a building once known for its guppies and goldfish.

Let Minnow Café still pays homage to its fishy ancestry, with both its name and its interior artwork, which will have you swimming with the fishes while you chow down on one.

So is this cafe a catch? Let’s find out.

Australian Foodie Brisbane Food Blog
A new café in Nundah is making the most of its school catchment area, by providing pre-class baked goods for kids, and much needed caffeine for parents doing the weekday drop-off at three nearby schools.

While Fuel & Co. is gaining a reputation for its house-made sweet treats, its extensive menu includes a range of substantial breakfasts and lunches as well.

So why are people looking forward to the school run now? Let’s find out.

FlavourCrate Ben Macdonald
One reason I love pottering around at food markets on the weekend is to see what new, tasty concoctions have been created by clever local gourmets.

Sadly I don’t always make it to the markets though, particularly in winter when it’s a toss-up between a warm bed or an early morning forage in the elements.

This is where a brand new foodie service comes in.

FlavourCrate is the brainchild of Masterchef contestant Ben Macdonald, who has been working with Australian producers to collect a bunch of gourmet treats which can then be delivered to your door.

What kid of flavours do you get in a crate? Let’s find out.
